Spring Standouts, featuring Newly Arrived Paintings from Luis-Fernando Suárez and Jimy Sloan
Through this showcase, both artists exemplify characteristics of spring through their works. Themes of growth and renewal, change, and maturing can be seen in their works. The new paintings by Sloan and Suárez both originate their inspirations from the land and natural environment, for Sloan his series “Atlantic Park” starts on the rugged coastline of Canada's Eastern shorelines where the artist took impressions and rubbings of the rockfaces and intertwined them with his own photographs from outside his home to combine elements of interpersonal and external histories into one series. Suárez completed these recent works over the past two years when he was traveling predominantly to South America for several exhibitions. He found himself inspired by the natural cave systems of Hidalgo and how the cave systems hold history in the stone, and become a place of support for the people who live in the region. Together these two artists' works come together and form a story of time and place, and history through transformation and movement.
