CARL WHITE: 21 MEDITATIONS

Calgary-based artist Carl White explores these enduring questions in 21 Meditations, a new exhibition of paintings and cast-concrete objects at Christine Klassen Gallery.

A well-known and admired member of Calgary’s creative community, White brings together his trademark street-stylized portraits, atmospheric wave-scapes and enigmatic vessels. A series of cast-concrete objects extends his visual language beyond the canvas, giving physical weight to ideas of memory, change and being.

For White, meditation is not about quieting the mind, but watching it at play—observing thoughts as they arise and recede like waves upon the sea. Each of the exhibition’s 21 works offers a meditation of its own, inviting viewers to pause, look closely and follow where it leads.

Connected by White’s raw, poetic visual language, the works do not tell a single story. Each stands independently as an encounter, a question or a moment of recognition. Together, they reflect an artist in a state of creative flux, continuing his exploration of art history, contemporary culture and the mysteries of human experience.
